We've had our Brook Trout eggs for nearly 3 weeks now, and this year, we've had something amazing occur! Typically, we receive about 220 eggs, and in the first couple of weeks, we usually lose about 50 or so due to a fungus that infects and keels the eggs or just due to natural causes. This year, we have lost only about 10 eggs in the same time period! But we also had this discovery in the tank on Friday, 11/11/16: You can see that "Ben & Jerry" as Ms. Dell calls them, has two fully formed heads on one body. The creamy colored blob attached to the belly is the remainder of the trouts' egg sack. By Monday, 11/14/16, it was almost completely absorbed. We have had mutations before, such as another two-headed trout, and last year we had a one head/two bodies trout. They usually only live a couple of weeks, but you just never know! Ben & Jerry may not live very long, but as of right now, they are swimming around the nursery/egg basket in the main tank.
